What you need to know!

Fragrance Hazards

Did you know many manufacturers list product ingredients on their websites, but they don’t have to list fragrance ingredients? Fragrances in cleaners are seldom disclosed, and one fragrance can contain 50 to 200 compounds, including dozens of volatile organic compounds. Terpenes, for example, give products a pine or lemon scent, but they’re linked to respiratory problems. They also can react with ambient ozone to form formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, and other irritants.

Bathroom Mold

Mold in bathrooms, where there is an abundance of moisture can be a big problem. Don't forget that you need to have proper ventilation in your bathroom. Showering and bathing lead to humidity, which leads to mold.

Broken Bulbs

Switching to CFL bulbs saves both money and energy, but knowing how to properly clean up a broken bulb is essential. Bulbs contain mercury, which is poisonous to living beings. DO NOT VACUUM. Vacuuming is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other cleanup steps have been taken. Vacuuming could spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor. Be thorough in collecting broken glass and visible powder. Scoop up glass fragments and powder using stiff paper or cardboard. Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. Place the used tape in the glass jar or plastic bag. Place cleanup materials in a sealable container.

Fool the Robbers

Store valuables in your child’s sock drawer rather than in your nightstand. Reports have shown that robbers go for the master bedrooms and completely skip over children's rooms.

Ditch the Plastic

Although the plastic bag at dry cleaners is meant to protect clothes, you should remove it as soon as you get home. “Plastic traps odors, moisture and humidity." “If there’s a latent, clear or invisible stain on the garment, it can get worse inside the bag, because a lack of oxygen can cause some stains to oxidize and become more visible.”

The Holiday Chill!

Things you never knew you could store in the refrigerator for the holidays!

 1. Candles. Candles burn slower when lit if not at room temperature. So, before the holidays, store your candles in the Frig before you get them out and light them, and they will burn all day long!

2. Batteries. Giving your family members electronic gadgets and toys for the holidays? The environment of the refrigerator extends the shelf-life of the battery. The freezer can also be used to store them in.

3. Angora Sweaters. The cold temperatures of the refrigerator has been known to reduce shedding in angora sweaters. Chill your sweaters and make sure you don't shed on your relatives this holiday!

4. Flowers. If you buy your flowers for holiday decor early, just place them in the refrigerator until the holiday festivities start and they will be fresh and beautiful.
